Issue 33 of Impact, the Winter Issue dated March 2022, marks the return to on-campus learning at Concordian International School as the school welcomes the astronomical New Year 2022 and the Lunar New Year of the Tiger. Editor Dessy Delevaux opens with the reopening of the Pre-K classes, allowing the youngest learners to return to campus in early January under Elementary Principal Tim Byrum. A Health and Safety Check-in features Khun Suppakkarn Pantisoontorn (Khun Kay), Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Crisis Management lead, who recounts the three-hour Samut Prakan Public Health Office inspection in October 2021 that allowed the school to reopen. Secondary Principal Sally Wen reflects on the role of an educator, and the new MYP Coordinator, Ms. Rachel Samson, is introduced.
The PYP section covers Chinese New Year celebrations, including a Wishing Tree and K3 Tiger Hats, cultivating a science mindset in the Early Years, and fostering critical thinking through a G5 Spaghetti Tower challenge. Counseling updates span the PYP, MYP and DP departments; Director of College Counseling Dr. Tresa reports Grade 12 seniors already receiving offers and scholarships from universities including Hong Kong University, UCL, Yale, UC Berkeley, Australian National University, Chulalongkorn, Mahidol, Thammasat and Keio.
Showcase highlights include the Voice of Concordian Chinese Singing Contest Season 6, whose Finale on 17 February 2022 featured sixteen selected performances, and the 6th Chinese Temple Fair themed Harmony, Peace and Endeavor, presented as the SING! Chinese Singing Festival. MYP-DP students also had Chinese poems published in the collection Imitation of Life.
Athletics, despite suspended team sports, celebrates individual achievements: Nina (G6) won the Thailand Junior Chess Tournament Girls Under 12, swimmers qualified for the Thailand Age Group Championships, and students medalled in fencing. Student Life covers service learning across Grades 6 to 10, MSSG and HSSG, Model United Nations winning more than 9 awards, World Scholar's Cup, a Top Ten finish at the PM's Health Innovation Competition, and two G12 students selected to visit CERN. The Alumni feature profiles the three Class of 2014 founders of Sasom.
