Concordian International School's winter 2020 issue marks Centerstage's 10th anniversary and the Dragon Varsity Table Tennis team's 3rd straight AISAA championship. Features include the school joining the UN Global Compact, a 265 kWdc solar rooftop installation, Alumni University Fair, Loy Krathong ceremonies, Khao Yai bonding trips, and wins at the 2nd Princess Cup Chinese Writing Competition.
Issue 30 of IMPACT, the magazine of Concordian International School in Bangkok, is the Winter issue covering the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year, a term shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic but spent largely on campus with in-person events. Editor Megan Ames notes the school's good fortune in holding classes throughout the semester and wishes readers a happy 2021 and Year of the Ox. The School Update section introduces members of the Board of Trustees, including Suparp Pattarathammas Kancvalskul and Michael J. Lauer, and reflects on the addition of the new five-story Sport Complex with its 50-meter swimming pool.
Alumni news features an Alumni University Fair, where 17 alumni represented universities including King's College London, Imperial College London, Oxford, Melbourne, British Columbia, Purdue and Chulalongkorn. The Alumni Talk 2020, held September 29th in the Grand Theater, brought together 11 alumni panelists who shared experiences of university life and the IB curriculum. Athletics highlights include the Dragon Varsity Table Tennis team becoming AISAA Champions for the third straight year, more than 80 swimmers on the swim team, and Concordian winning 4 golds, 9 silvers and 2 bronzes plus second place overall at the Mako Shark Swimming Championships 2020.
The Showcase section covers the 10-year anniversary of Centerstage, the PY Talent Show, where 28 of 78 entries were selected, plus a Chamber Music Concert, Dramatic Readings and the Moon Festival Chorus. Activities include strong results at the 2nd Princess Cup Writing Competition, where 47 of 174 awarded essays were from Concordian, and the 4th Annual Concordian Intramural Chess Tournament. Grade 8, 9 and 11 bonding trips to Khao Yai, Loy Krathong ceremonies and a Freaky Fun Festival are also featured.
Service-learning spans Grades 6 to 10 around the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including a Feeding the Needy football fundraiser and a 50-student mural project. As a special feature, Concordian announces acceptance as a participant in the United Nations Global Compact and, marking its 20th anniversary, a Go Green solar rooftop project with a 265 kWdc capacity expected to reduce carbon emissions by 137.2 tons annually.
