01/06/2018
Concordian International School IMPACT issue 21 covers 2017-18 AISAA sports championships in football, basketball, and volleyball, plus the Grade 11 School Build in Mae Ai, the Shanghai exchange program, Week Without Walls trips to Sukhothai, Khaoyai, and Vietnam, and cultural highlights including Centerstage@7, the EY Winter Concert, Harvard Model Congress Asia, and the Chinese Speech Contest.
This issue of IMPACT, the magazine of Concordian International School in Bangkok, covers the first semester of the 2017-2018 school year, with much of the writing contributed by the students themselves. Editor Nicki Deidrick opens by reflecting on how the school thrives not only in academics but in arts, athletics and life skills, noting that more than half the magazine is written by students reflecting on the opportunities and activities they experienced. A showcase page highlights Concordian's record of acceptances to top world universities.
Athletics features prominently. The Boys G10 and Under football team and the Girls G10 and Under team were both AISAA League Co-Champions, with the girls going undefeated in League and Cup regulation play and conceding only two goals all season. The Concordian Varsity Boys Volleyball team became AISAA League Champions, the G5-U girls won the AISAA Tournament, and the G7-U girls basketball team earned second place. The G5-U boys took bronze, and twenty-two Dragons from Grades 3, 4 and 5 competed at the AISAA Track and Field Meet at Berkeley on December 7, 2017. In table tennis, Man won the 2017 King's Cup U12 Championship.
The arts and academics are well represented. Risako of G1B won First Prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition with an invitation to perform in Rome, the Centerstage@7 talent show and the Early Years Winter Concert "Toys! The Night They Come Alive" took the stage, and students competed in the Chinese Speech Contest and Harvard Model Congress Asia 2018.
Trips and expeditions include the Grade 5 Chiang Mai trip, Week Without Walls journeys to Sukhothai, Khao Yai and Vietnam, and a Shanghai exchange with thirteen Grade 9 students. The Grade 11 School Build at Baan Ja Toh, Mae Ai, Chiang Mai, raised 450,000 baht to build a school. The issue also covers service learning, a Math Day marking the 100th day of school, Loy Krathong, Ploenchit Fair, Grade 5 social enterprise that raised more than 20,000 baht for Muang Ka School, and a tribute to King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Father's Day.
