Issue 19 of IMPACT, the Summer Issue dated June 2017, marks the close of the 2016-2017 academic year at Concordian International School in Bangkok. In her editor's note, Nicki Deidrick bids farewell to the Class of 2017 and looks back on a year of final senior matches, projects, exhibitions and graduation. The edition opens with the 2017 University Acceptance List, naming the institutions that accepted Concordian graduates across the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand and beyond, including offers from schools such as Stanford, Imperial College London, UCL, the University of Oxford, Cambridge and NYU. A Message from the Board by chairperson Mr. John Chu notes the school's expansion with new buildings and sports facilities and the formation of the AISAA (Asia International Schools Athletics Association).
An alumni feature by Sinthu Kosasih, Class of 2011, reflects on choosing the IB at Concordian and her path through Imperial College London and medical studies at Tongji University. The Showcase section reviews a strong athletics season: the U-13 boys football team finished undefeated as TISAC League and Earth Day Tournament Champions, the varsity girls volleyball team won multiple titles and placed 5th of 12 in Hong Kong, and swimmers, squash player Sean (U-17 Junior Squash Classic winner) and the chess team all earned honors. At the Pan Asia Math Challenge VI, the Grade 8 team placed first, while Grades 6 and 7 took third. The Senior Art Exhibition presented more than 120 works under the theme "It's a Strange, Strange World."
School Update coverage spans high school House System results (Class of 2018), Middle School achievements, and PYP Student Council service, including a Christmas Gift Drive that collected more than 500 gifts in six days. The Grade 5 "Never Too Late" solar-power movie raised funds for a campus solar station, and students campaigned against plastic cups. Other features cover Operation Smile's Mae Hong Son mission, the Grade 10 CPF factory trip, EY and PY Sports Days, the PYP Centerstage talent show, the musical Ever After, a new trilingual library, the K2 Walkathon that raised 395,444 Thai Baht for elderly homes, and the 2017 Songkran ceremony held during the mourning period for King Rama 9.
