This Winter 2017 issue of IMPACT from Concordian International School is dedicated to HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927–2016), featuring his New Year greeting cards and a Thai Principalship Award to Ajarn Vichitvong. Alumni from Oxford, Cambridge, and Columbia reflect on IB; students report on Week Without Walls trips, a Grade 11 School Build in a Karen village, the TISAC Orchestra Festival, and a dyslexia awareness project that raised 60,000 baht.
Issue 18 of IMPACT, the Winter Issue dated March 2017, is the magazine of Concordian International School, a trilingual IB World School in Bangkok. The edition is dedicated to the memory of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927-2016), and editor Nicki Deidrick frames it as both an act of mourning and a celebration of the late King's value for education. A Special Feature traces the New Year cards King Bhumibol designed and sent to the Thai people from 1987 to 2016, while another feature marks the proclamation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. Concordian also congratulates Ajarn Vichitvong Chanarat on receiving one of the 2017 Thai Principalship Awards from the Office of the Private Education Commission on 14 February 2017.
An Alumni Update gathers reflections on choosing IB at Concordian from graduates including Peerapat Manakrit (Class of 2014, University of Columbia), Warinporn Phantratanamongkol and Natchapol Suebsubanant (Class of 2013, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford), and Justin Chong, Natnaree Vasunirachorn and others from the Class of 2012. They credit the school's multilingual, well-rounded program and CAS for shaping their critical thinking and university success.
The Showcase section reports a strong basketball season across U-11 to senior teams, including the U-11 Boys and Girls league wins and TISAC placings, the Senior Girls Volleyball team's tournament and league championships, and the Little Dragons Saturday program. Grade 12 student Kan raised more than 60,000 baht through his "Can You Read Me?" dyslexia awareness project and won the 2017 SENIA Honorary Student Award in Yokohama, Japan. The Junior Achievement company Organizzato, formed by 25 students, won an "Eco Friendly" product award, and students completed a CAS mural at Wat Salut.
Trips and Expeditions cover the Grade 11 School Build at a Kareang village near the Thai-Myanmar border and Week Without Walls journeys to Chengdu, Hua Hin, Khao Yai and Sukhothai. Community Service highlights a gift drive that raised over 550 gifts and Grade 11 mangrove planting at Bang Pakong, while Flash Back and School Update sections feature the Grade 5 Exhibition, Ploenchit Fair 2016, the TISAC Orchestra Festival, and student life across the divisions.
