15/12/2013

Issue 9 (Winter 2014) of Concordian International School's IMPACT magazine covers the grand opening of the Science, Art & Technology Center, Grade 11's School Build Project in Tak province, Philippines typhoon relief, Week Without Walls trips to Luang Prabang and Sukhothai, UKMT Math Challenge gold and silver results, and a 9-page EYP/PYP section.

This Winter Issue of Impact, the magazine of Concordian International School in Bangkok, opens the second semester of the 2013-2014 school year. In her January 2014 editor's note, Impact Editor Shelley Harris welcomes readers back from winter break and previews the issue's coverage of units of inquiry, field trips, student government, Week Without Walls, the School Build trip, Dragon athletics, and student achievements. The edition also marks His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's December 5th birthday with a Thai poem written by Grade 7 students.

The Concordian Showcase celebrates academic and individual success. In the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge organized by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust, Concordian students earned 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 13 Bronze certificates. Grade 2 student Putter scored a hole in one at Unico Grande Golf Course and took second place at the ISF Junior Golf Open, while G2 student Praew Pantisoontorn won first prize at the MCGP Siam Paragon Music Competition 2013 held by Mahidol University.

A major theme is service to the community, nation and world. The school sent educational supplies to the Main Thouk orphanage near Inle Lake in Myanmar, and Filipino faculty thanked the community for donations to victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), delivered through the Philippine Embassy. The Grade 11 Class of 2015 ran a School Build Project in U-Su-Poh-Kee, Tak, renovating a hill tribe school and supporting more than 60 Karen families. The K2 Walkathon raised 242,607.25 Baht for charity.

Week Without Walls 2013 took Grades 9-10 to Luang Prabang, Laos, and 112 students with 20 teachers to Sukhothai. The school formally opened its Science, Art, and Technology Center on October 16th, with the ribbon cut by CP Group Chairman Khun Dhanin Chearavanont, followed by an Open House on November 9th. Further sections cover MYP and High School student councils, Dragon athletics, alumni updates, a nine-page EYP/PYP feature, and Events including Halloween, Loy Krathong and the Ploenchit Fair.
