IMPACT 3: TEDxConcordian by Concordian International School

15/11/2011

Issue 3 of Concordian International School's IMPACT magazine covers Grade 12 graduation, TEDxYouth@Krungthep at the school amphitheater (November 2011), a Khao Yai tree-planting trip (150 students, 2,000 trees), Brain Triathlon Global Championships, World Scholar's Cup, and the Star Search Talent Show.

This edition of IMPACT, the magazine of Concordian International School in Bangkok, opens with notes from the editors and from the Director and Principals before turning to the school year's graduation milestones. It covers the Grade 12 Valedictory and Farewell Celebrations, university matriculations and a message from the school counselor, alongside the transitions that mark a student's progress through the IB programmes, captured in features titled "We're Big PYP Kids Now" and "Bye-Bye PYP, Hello MYP" as children move from the Primary Years Programme into the Middle Years Programme.

The issue celebrates a busy season of competitions and student achievement, including the Brian Triathlon Global Championships, the World Scholar's Cup and a series of Chinese competitions. A large summer section, "Summer Fun and Learning," gathers reports on a Build A School Project carried out with friends from the USA, Summer Camp at Ojai, sessions with Nash the trainer, a visit to Yaowarat with True Plookpanya, and a trip to Shanghai.

Looking back over the previous semester, the magazine highlights a G6 to G11 tree-planting trip to Khao Yai on 7 June 2011 under the banner "Concordian Goes Green," in which 150 students planted 2,000 trees. It also documents the Star Search Talent Show, written about by a Grade 9 student named Dear who served as MC for the MYP show with her partner Juseong, as well as the Spring Concert and an Art Auction.

Charity work features prominently through projects such as Voices, a Children's Cancer Foundation initiative tied to the school's mission statement, and the TIGER Fund. The edition rounds out with school news, introducing new teachers in "Meet the New Teachers" and a "Guess Who" feature, detailing the School Expansion and its new building design concept, and closing with a special column on "20 Golden Rules." The issue also promotes TEDxYouth@Krungthep, a conference for young people aged 12 to 21 held at the Concordian International School Amphitheater on November 19, 2011.
